Ductwork Repairs

It’s Time to Get Your Ducts in a Row

Crushed or leaky ductwork can cost you both money and comfort. Your central HVAC system conditions air and then transports it through the duct system in your home or business. If your ducts are obstructed, disconnected, or lacking proper insulation, your system can’t do its job efficiently or effectively. Here are some examples of common ductwork repairs:

  • Fallen Ducts — If a section of flex duct has come loose or fallen down in your attic or crawlspace, the connections should be repaired as soon as possible to restore airflow.
  • Deteriorated Insulation – Insulation can compress over time and lose its R-value, which means it needs to be replaced in order to prevent heat gain or loss.
  • Crushed or Damaged Flex Ducts – If a section of flex duct has deteriorated or become damaged over time, the section can be replaced with new flex duct.

Ductwork Replacement

New Ducts, New You

Sometimes, your ductwork issues cannot be solved with a simple repair. In those instances, it may make sense to replace your full duct system. Our estimator can come out and assess your ductwork and come up with options that make the most sense for your space and comfort needs so that you can make an informed decision.

Alltemp can typically complete a full ductwork replacement in 1-2 days. Here are some reasons you may need to consider a full or partial ductwork replacement:

  • You have metal ductwork that is rusted or leaking air.
  • Your home or commercial space has old, deteriorated fiberglass duct board.
  • You have an older, poorly-designed duct system that is not sufficiently maintaining temperature.
  • Your fiberglass duct board or other porous insulation material is wet or visibly moldy.

Replacing Fiberglass Duct Board with Metal Duct

Fiberglass duct board, sometimes called fiberboard, is a rigid board made of resin-bonded fiberglass insulation. Under ideal conditions, fiberglass duct systems are a safe and efficient option. However, per the EPA, because this material is porous, if moisture enters your duct system and mold begins to grow, cleaning will not take care of the issue. There is no EPA-registered biocide for the treatment of porous duct materials.

If you are experiencing mold or microbial growth in your fiberglass duct board, the affected sections should be replaced to protect your indoor air quality.

Replacing Supply & Return Plenums

Plenums are the boxes connecting your air handler to your supply and return ductwork, typically made of sheet metal or duct board. Reasons you may need to replace your supply or return plenum:

  • Leaking Air: A leaking plenum lets conditioned air escape into your attic or crawlspace, which means wasted energy and money.
  • Loss of Structural Integrity: Duct board plenums can lose their structural integrity due to age or repeated service access, causing restricted airflow.
  • Mold: A duct board plenum is porous, meaning that if it has gotten wet and become moldy, cleaning will not fix the problem — it needs to be replaced.

Upgrade Your Grilles & Registers

The grilles and registers in your home are the openings through which conditioned air enters a room and from which return air is pulled back into the system to be conditioned.

If you have rusted or damaged supply or return grilles in your home, Alltemp can replace them. We will come out, take proper measurements for any grilles or registers that need replacing, order them, and return to install.

What’s the difference between a grille and a register?

A register is a slatted or perforated vent cover that also contains an adjustable damper that allows you to manually open and close the vent to control the flow of air into the room. Registers are typically only used for supply vents. A grille is like a register, but without the adjustable damper.
